Go Cubs Go!

July 24, 2008

I haven’t said much this year about my Cubs, but the fact is they are in first!  I know we have a couple of teams on our heels, but I have confidence that we can take care of business.  So I hope you enjoy this youtube video with the 2008 cubs.

A Few notes:

  • Had a baby shower on Sunday.  Does a baby really go through 7-10 diapers a day?
  • Preached Sunday on the parable of the sower.  If you want to hear the message you a go online to… wait a minute I forgot, we still record on tapes.
  • Kid’s camp this week, that means the end of the summer schedule is near.
  • I’m preaching the next two Sunday mornings from Hebrews 12:1-3 as part of a new series, I need to get to work.
  • My wife starts weekly doctor appointments this week, the time is NEAR.

On Thursday night I went with some friends to Sonic for a late night ice cream run and God ended up presenting us with a great opportunity to share the Gospel.  The guy waiting on our table was an 18 year old named Michael.  He was a real friendly young man and we started talking with him.  We soon transitioned the conversation to Jesus, which he said he did not believe anything about Jesus.  As you can imagine this lead us down a great path.  At first he couldn’t stay long because he was working, but every chance he got he returned to our table.  After he got off work he came and pulled up a chair and we talked for another 45 minutes.

Towards the end of the conversation my friend asked, “Doesn’t this stuff at least interest you, are you at least interested in learning about what the Bible says?” Now remember this question was asked at about 11:30 PM after he had sat with us 45 and after he had worked an eight hour shift.  We all thought the answer was obvious by the questions he was asking us, but we didn’t expect this response, “I don’t mean to be rude and it is nothing against you guys, but this stuff doesn’t interest me at all.”  To be honest he was a bad liar.  He had just sat and asked question after question about the Bible and Jesus.  We have since be praying for Michael and I hope you will as well.  He IS obviously interested and we plan on visiting the Sonic more often.  I have given him my email address but I haven’t heard from him.

This story reminds me of a quote for my new friend Michael

“A man who wishes to remain a sound atheist cannot be too careful of his reading.”

I will keep you all updated on any future conversations

Baby Update

July 16, 2008

The day is quickly approaching and we cannot wait!  We have about six weeks left before the baby (Noah) is born.  Everyone tells us to enjoy this time, enjoy your sleep, enjoy this or that.  Well I appreciate all the well meaning advice, but it is kind of like telling a five year old to enjoy his sleep on Christmas Eve.

My wife has recently gone back to school.  She teaches year-round and now has 24 new Kindergarten children.  Pray for her!  We also head back to the doctor this week on Thursday.  Every time we go out now people ask when are baby is due and each time they say we will never make it.  Saturday our server didn’t ask when he just asked if we were having twins.

That is pretty much what we have going on with the baby, hope everyone is doing well.

A few notes:

  • Got back from M-Fuge on Saturday it was great!  Kids in our groups got to see 25 kids come to know Christ as Savior on ministry sites.  Overall on site about 40 people.
  • I think I have a new favorite song ”We Shine.”
  • We have finally decided on a name!  Noah Matthew Walton.
  • Final birth class tonight and first game of the church softball tourney, talk about conflict.

This week at M-Fuge our pastor told many great stories of missionaries through the ages. He gave us many quotes to consider.  The one I want to post today comes from William Carey, considered the Father of Modern Missions.  Carey spent many days ministering in India.  Before he left for India, a dangerous place for missions, his friends asked him if he really wanted to go and he responded with this quote:

“I will go down into the pit, if you will hold the rope.”

Today God is calling us to one of two positions, either to be in the pit or to be holding the rope.  In the Christian life the sidelines are not the option.  This week consider if God is calling you to get in the pit or hold the rope.  Then ask yourself if you are being obedient to the place he has called you.  Go or Give are the two options we have with missions, because everybody is to pray.

Have a good week.

A few notes:

  • I reconnected with my old friend Joey Faulk and will be calling him this week.  Joey if you ever read this blog be praying about it.
  • Taking kids to M-Fuge this week and I’m excited about it, but hate leaving my wife. I’m a bit nervous about the plexiglass window we installed today, I hope it last.
  • I’m driving separate just in case something crazy happens, not with the window, but with my wife.
  • Our preacher mentioned church planting today, I wonder if anyone heard that?  I did.
  • My wife starts back with students tomorrow!  Year-round does have its downside.
  • I haven’t played tennis in over a year which is hard for me to believe, but I still know serious tennis when I see it.  What Federer and Nadal did today was awesome, if that had the roof in I think they still would be playing.
  • Pray for our youth this week!
