Using God

July 19, 2007

I was listening to a sermon the other day by my former preaching Professor, Dr. Rummage.  He is now a pastor at Hickory Grove in Charlotte, NC and his sermons can be found on the web at www.hgbc.org.

This message was his second message on a series he was teaching on the 10 Commandments.  There were a number of very challenging points throughout the sermon entitled, “Your God is Too Small,” and one I wanted to note here.

In the message he asked the question, ”Am I using my talents to glorify God or am I using God to glorify my talents?”

What a question for all of us to examine.  He followed it up by applying it to himself. “Which do I love more, preaching about Jesus or Jesus?
As someone who is quick to tell someone that I love to preach am I quicker to tell people about the one whom I am preaching?

So whether your passion or gift be preaching, landscaping, teaching, singing, cooking, or managing finances ask yourself “Am I using my talents to glorify God or am I using God to glorify my talents.”

Let us not waste any more time, energy, and effort glorifying ourselves.

New Post

July 16, 2007

Okay so getting back into the blogging thing was much more difficult than I anticipated.

The summer has gone by very quickly, as it normally does.  Starting Monday I will hit the camp tour.  We will leave on Monday for Camp Caswell and return on Saturday.  I will be home long enough to preach on Sunday and wash some clothes, then we will hit the road again.  The second week will be in Bluefield, VA for Centri-Kid.

Camp is always a special time and please pray for our teenagers and children as they prepare for camp.

I look forward to blogging once again, just don’t excpect too much until August.
